Online School of Natural Building

Never has there been…

… a more urgent need to re-enliven the ancient and timeless ways of building with Nature. Lost are the ways that used to connect us to the planet we live on through the homes we live in and build ourselves. Never have we had a more powerful way to inspire and learn these timeless ways of building than those which modern technology offers.
After half a century, the Natural Building Movement has arrived at this intersection we call…

EDGE

Where Modern Minds Discover Timeless Building

Building With The Biomes
The Natural Approach to Learning Natural Building
Biome
bi·ome ˈbī-ˌōm
:A large area characterized by its vegetation, soil, climate and wildlife

Our planet presents a vast array of conditions, within which our buildings have to exist. From wet to dry, hot to cold, barren to lush, densely forested to open grassland, and with a huge variety of soils. Look out your window. This is what you have to work with. If you don’t consider the conditions of your location, your building could easily fail. Do not try to build an igloo in the desert. Build with your biome.

“Building with the Biomes” means we build in harmony with as well as with the materials provided by our particular biome. This idea is not new to natural building philosophy. But only now, with the technology of the internet and the explosion of online learning, can these building techniques be taught in this powerful new way. Now you, a future builder anywhere in the world, can access teachings that are uniquely suited to your place. No more having to ask, “Will this work where I live?” The answer is yes. Simply tell us where you live and we will eliminate the guesswork and the potential for building an unsuitable building by providing a Natural Building Education just for you.

Building with the Original Technology

Let’s take a moment to step back and have a fresh look at the “primitive” materials used in natural building. At EDGE we aim to breath new life into the experience of working with raw, base materials and show that these materials are not merely primitive but the best choices for your consideration.

Our modern minds have been trained to look to high-tech, man-made materials to solve today’s building problems. How convenient for us that natural materials are all around us and in many cases vastly superior to their high-tech counterparts. Appreciation for the materials is a thread woven through all our course content. Be prepared to look at the world of Natural Building in a new way!

Course 01: Building With The Chaparral

The chaparral is a biome that is rapidly expanding as the planet adjusts to our presence. A perfect place to launch our first course.

Join us as we build a natural home with the California chaparral! If you live in an arid climate, you face unique conditions. Don’t build an “all purpose” building that isn’t suited for your biome. In this online course, we will build an entire natural building to deal with the unique challenges the chaparral presents, and what materials it offers. We will build a whole cottage from beginning to end, demonstrating the options and details that take this course from instructional to inspirational. You will graduate with all the information and skills needed to begin your own structure.
